Welcome to 2020. January must be the mildest yet, a few days of frost only. Will we ever see snow again? The Herons’ first appearance on Jan 7th was followed by a steady flow of birds carrying sticks to patch up their nests – a full month earlier than last year. The Rooks and Jackdaws are still around, but soon they will be off to their nesting sites too. Birdsong abounds. I counted five Song Thrushes in full song between Grantchester Meadows and Coe Fen and last week, Skylarks were singing over the fields above the Meadows. Soon the Butterbur will be in flower, alongside the river in Paradise.

A date for your diary: Sam Sinclair will be talking on “Conservation of the British Landscape” at the Social Club on Weds March 25th. We will be arranging more talks through the year, but if there is anyone you can suggest as a speaker, please let us know.
